Whitney Whitford, DVM
Dr. Whitney graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine with honors in 1995. In 1997 she married Dr. Charley and joined the Animal Medical Center of Lehigh Acres, where she practiced for two years. She transferred to Viscaya-Prado Veterinary Hospital in Cape Coral in late 1999. By 2001, Dr Whitney had returned to the AMC, and in June 2003, she and Dr. Charley purchased the AMC from Drs. Larry and Beth Murphy. Dr. Whitney’s special interests include critical care and internal medicine, dentistry and pain management. She enjoys running and spending time with her family- 8 dogs, 4 cats and 2 horses. You can see Dr. Whitney on the “Pet Connection” every Tuesday at about 8:20 am on Wink TV (WXCW, Channel 46). She answers questions from callers and brings in a dog or cat from the Gulfcoast Humane Society looking for a home.
Charles Whitford, DVM
Dr. Charley also graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. He began practicing at Viscaya-Prado Veterinary Hospital soon after graduation, and remained there for eight years. In June of 2003, he and Dr. Whitney purchased Animal Medical Center of Lehigh Acres from Drs. Larry and Beth Murphy. His special interests include performing surgery and preventative care. He enjoys biking, running and cheering for the Gators football team!
Doctors Whitney and Charley have
eight dogs – Missy, Penny, Sheldon, Sweet Pea, Toby, Tina, Bean, and Jack.
four cats – Tyra, Sarah, Monkey and Horatio (aka Orange Kitty) and two horses- Junior & Liberty.
They enjoy participating in the Walt Disney World Marathon each year.
All of their pets are rescues.
Pamela Mettley, DVM
Dr. Pam graduated in 1985 from Louisiana State University. She began practicing at a small animal hospital in Miami which had six veterinarians, and remained there for six years. In 1991 she moved to Southwest Florida where she continued practicing medicine. Dr. Pam’s special interests include feline and geriatric medicine and preventative care. She enjoys reading, yoga, jazzercise, and biking. Dr. Mettley also likes taking vacations with her husband and fur kids to dog friendly beaches. She has a two cats; Luna & Macintosh and two dogs, Alfie & Pepper.
Technicians and Veterinary Assistants
Marie – Certified Veterinary Technician
Marie graduated from St. Petersburg College as a Certified Veterinary Technician in June 2001, and joined our team in July 2003. She has been involved in veterinary medicine all of her life and followed in her mothers footsteps by becoming a CVT. She began volunteering at a veterinary hospital when she was in sixth grade. Marie has one dog named Mocha and a cat named Mayhem.
Dawn – Exam Room Technician
Dawn has been with AMC since March of 2006. She has worked in all areas of the hospital, but her favorite is exam room technician and helping to take care of the pets. She has a daughter who has completed vet tech school and will be going to vet school. Currently she has 3 dogs- Destiny, Nikki, and Scarface, but has been known to take in a stray or two. Dawn is also our Inventory Manager and in charge of all adoptable pets that we have at AMC.
Ashley – Exam Room Assistant
Ashley joined our team in December of 2006. She loves animals, and enjoys working with them throughout our hospital. She has a hound mix named Dixie and a cat named Bobbles that she rescued from AMC.
Nadiya – Exam Room Technician
Nadiya joined the AMC team in September of 2013. She’s been a veterinary assistant for over 7 years. She has 3 dogs, 1 parrot and 2 fish tanks. When Nadiya is not working, she can be found fishing at the beach.
Lauren – Veterinary Technician
Lauren joined the AMC team in July of 2015. She has been working with animals since 2008. Lauren has finished school to become a Certified Veterinary Technician, and is waiting board completion. Lauren loves spending time with her husband Russell, son Dalton, and daughter Lillian. She also has three Australian Shepherds named Pearl, Semper and Molly, and she has a Catahoula mix named Pixel. Lauren also has a Parakeet named William.
Sommer – Veterinary Assistant
Sommer has been with AMC since 2011. She has a beautiful daughter. Sommer rescued a Pit Bull named Diamond and she also rescued a senior cat named Miss Bo. Sommer enjoys working out and spending time outdoors during her free time.
Administration and Receptionists
Janet Barger – Hospital Administrator
Janet has been a long time resident of Lehigh Acres and joined our AMC team in 2001. Janet earned her degree in veterinary practice management from St. Petersburg College in 2008. She has four dogs, Rebel, Tanner, Angel, and Zeus; one parrot named Alex, a Quarter Horse named Taboo, a Fox Trotter named Jake, and a Paint Horse named Bud. She has been married to her husband Anthony since 1989 and cherishes her son Gage. Janet can be found in all areas of the hospital checking on everyone and helping where she is needed. She oversees anything from billing, customer service to employee concerns and new hires.
Erin – Lead Receptionist/Social Media Coordinator
Erin joined the AMC team in December 2006. She is also experienced in the pet resort and as an assistant to the doctors. She has lived in Florida all of her life. She has two handsome sons. Her animals include: a Yorkie named Lila, a Pitbull named Waylon, a Bulldog named Dani, a Rottweiler named Lincoln, 4 cats- Stewart, Stevie, Evil Knievel, and Houdini, 2 goats named Violet and Jack Jack, and a yard full of chickens. Hobbies include 4H and running.
Vicki – Receptionist
Vicki joined the AMC team in June of 2002. She has a wonderful husband, 3 children, and 3 grandchildren. Vicki has 3 dogs; Dixie, Tizzy, and Pinky, and 2 cats; Cookie and Sunny. Vicki also has a pet pig named Pork Chop.
Wendy – Receptionist
Wendy, having many years experience as a veterinary receptionist, has her Associates in Science majoring in Medical Administration, and joined our AMC team in 2008. She has a soft spot for senior pets, but senior Pugs have a special place in her heart. Wendy and her husband of 30 years enjoy hanging out at home with their 3 senior Pugs, senior Cocker Spaniel, and their adult Pug who keeps the household jumping. Both Wendy and her husband are also Disney fans and enjoy the occasional trip to Orlando, visiting the Walt Disney World Resort area.
Shannon – Receptionist
Shannon joined our AMC team in September 2015. She was born and raised in Miami and recently moved to Fort Myers. Shannon has two Pit Bulls, who are brothers, named Choppa and Whimpy. She also has a hamster named Ruger, 3 guinea pigs, and a rabbit. Shannon enjoys working out and traveling.
Lacy – Receptionist
Lacy joined the AMC team in May of 2015. She has always enjoyed being around animals. Lacy has two senior boxers named Nawla and Lou. She has no children at this time, but hopes to become a mom in the near future. Lacy has lived in Lehigh for 12 years. Her hobbies are shopping and enjoying life as much as she can.
Gage – Pet Resort Manager
Gage has been working in our Pet Resort since 2009. He enjoys caring for all the dogs and cats that board with us. Gage can be found in all areas of the hospital, and is a great asset for help with the larger dogs. Gage is a newlywed and has 3 cats named Emma, Ali, and Troy.
Cyndy – Surgery and Pet Resort Assistant
Cyndy was a long term client and joined our team in 2005 to help care for all of our four legged guests. She has five daughters and six grandchildren. She grew up on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania. After marrying, she worked in a nursing home as a nurse assistant, then a physical therapy assistant, then finally in medical records. She loves cooking (and does an awesome job at it), sewing, crocheting and chocolate. She takes amazing care of all our four-legged guests. Cyndy makes hand-made quilts and dog beds-raffle tickets are available and proceeds go to our AMC rescue fund.
Jessie – Pet Resort Assistant
Jessie started volunteering in our Pet Resort November of 2012. She then became an employee May of 2013. She has 4 dogs, 2 cats, and a guinea pig. She is a full time college student and enjoys cleaning and caring for animals.
Sue – Pet Resort Assistant/Groomer
Sue joined the AMC team because of her love for animals. She has worked in all areas of the hospital and currently works in the Pet Resort. Sue enjoys spending time with her husband, four children, and fourteen grandchildren. Sue has two German Shepherds, 2 Tennessee Walking Horses, and 4 cats.
Sammy – Pet Resort Assistant
Sammy joined AMC as a Pet Resort Assistant early October 2015. He has a Catahoula Mix named Bear, a bearded dragon, and a corn snake. When Sammy isn’t working, he enjoys playing with Bear and working on classic cars. Sammy enjoys meeting and taking care of the dogs and cats that stay with us.
Brittany – Pet Resort Assistant
Brittany joined our AMC team in June of 2016. She has three dogs named Bella, Claire, and Spawn and a rescue cat named Gina. Brittany is currently enrolled in school to become a certified veterinary technician. She enjoys photography and the beach in her free time.
